List of train stations in Austria |
The railway station Landeck-Zams (until 2006: Landeck ) is a through station on the Arlberg railway in Landeck , Tirol . It is an important hub for tourist traffic in the western Upper Inn Valley. Regional trains and S-Bahn Tirol trains from Innsbruck end here. The REX trains run every hour, often every half hour. Trains of the S-Bahn Tirol are only occasionally extended to Landeck. The train station is also the starting point for bus routes to the Kaunertal, Reschenpass, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Paznaun and Arlberg regions. In addition, Landeck is served every hour by Railjet trains to Vienna Central Station and Bregenz or Zurich HB . It is frequented by more than 2000 travelers a day, the majority of whom are commuters who work or study in Innsbruck.
history
Landeck station was built and opened in 1883 as the western terminus of the Innsbruck – Landeck section of the Arlberg Railway, which opened on June 1, 1883 . After the two most difficult structures on the mountain route had been completed - the Trisanna Bridge and the Arlberg Tunnel - the rail line between Bludenz and Landeck was completed, and on August 31, 1884 the first test train ran on the Arlberg Railway. In order to let the operation on the mountain route settle in, initially only freight traffic was set up. It was not until September 21, 1884, the day after the opening ceremony, that all traffic was started by the kk general management of the Austrian State Railways . After the connection to the Lindau – Bludenz railway line was established, Landeck station was elevated to the status of an operations office.
Landeck station was intended as the starting point for the Reschenscheideckbahn to Mals , which began several times but was never completed .
In the course of the re-routing of the Arlbergbahn near Zams , which was completed in 1999, with the construction of the Zammer Tunnel , the west portal of which is not far from Landeck station, the station was rebuilt and modernized. Since the Zams stop was abandoned due to the relocation of the route into the tunnel, the Landeck station was renamed Landeck-Zams on the initiative of the Zams municipality for the 2006 summer timetable.
meaning
In addition to its function as an important passenger station, the station also has an important operational significance. Since the ramp section of the Arlbergbahn begins in Landeck (maximum 26 ‰ on the east and 31 ‰ on the west ramp), the trains here are regularly coupled and uncoupled from the front or rear end locomotives. This mainly applies to heavy freight trains and passenger trains, which are usually longer on weekends. Even the Orient Express makes a short (compulsory) stop for this.
Due to the single-track route on the Arlberg ramp, the Arlbergbahn may be blocked in exceptional cases (repairs, natural disasters). A rail replacement service is run between Bludenz and Landeck (sometimes also Ötztal). The Landeck-Zams station forecourt was specially designed for these occasions in such a way that there is enough space for buses if necessary.
