The series 1063 is an electric shunting locomotive (shunting locomotive) of the Austrian Federal Railways .

As a result of the oil crisis of the 1970s, more and more electric instead of diesel locomotives were to be used in shunting services. In addition, the last steam locomotives were parked in this function in this decade. After an almost 30-year break in procurement (most recently series 1062 , with the exception of the splinter class 1067 in the 1960s), the series 1063 was commissioned, based on a mine locomotive from Ruhrkohle AG .

history

In 1975 the ÖBB decided to increase the performance of the profitable freight transport. A maximum line speed of 80 or 100 km / h was considered sufficient, because it was much more important to accelerate the time-consuming train formation and breakup. However, suitable locomotives were still missing. A solution was seen in the new E 1200 three-phase locomotive from Ruhrkohle AG, which is why the 006 locomotive was intensively tested by the ÖBB in 1979. This is therefore the "mother" of the 1063 series, of which the ÖBB initially ordered five from Simmering-Graz-Pauker Graz. After these proved themselves, two more delivery series followed later (006-037 and 038-050), each with technical differences. The electrical part was supplied by BBC, ELIN and Siemens .

Refurbishment

The ÖBB planned to modernize the locomotives from 2018 and to equip them with the possibility to run on sections without catenary. For the purpose of comparability, 1063.039 was equipped with batteries and supercap storage on behalf of ÖBB in 2016 and locomotive 1063.038 was equipped with a combined electrolysis / fuel cell unit in 2017. Both systems were successfully tested in everyday operation, but were restored to their original state.

For a series conversion of 25 machines, the ÖBB decided to install batteries and not to use fuel cells. These locomotives will in future be referred to as the 1263 series. In addition to the 25 last-mile locomotives, the remaining machines are also to be equipped with ETCS .

construction

mechanical construction

The 1063 series has a center driver's cab with front ends of approximately the same length on both sides, in which the traction-related components are housed. The driver's cab and stems rest on the main frame. The two two-axle bogies in spar design support the locomotive bridge at four points - each with three coil springs. The tensile force is transmitted to the bridge via the deep pivot pin.

In the front extension there are two inverter fans, the auxiliary transformer, five inverters, a capacitor cabinet, the braking resistors, the contactor frame, the auxiliary operating frame and the unit for the air heating.

There are two transformer oil coolers, both drive motor fans, the oil pump, the two DC link chokes, the input rectifier, the rectifier voltage protection, the system selector switch, the air drying system, the auxiliary compressor, the air structure and the compressor in the rear front section.

The spacious driver's cab is equipped with four driver's cab desks with a panoramic view.

The 1063.001 to 037 were painted blood orange, the remaining 13 pieces traffic red with white warning surfaces on the fronts and a white stripe on the frame. Since 2005, the locomotives have been painted traffic red with the new ÖBB logo during main inspections, but without warning surfaces and stripes.

Electric Construction

The short roof supports a single-arm pantograph (type VI), the main switch and the roof cables. The single-phase alternating current is rectified after the secondary windings of the externally ventilated and oil-cooled transformer and converted into three-phase current. This drives the four six-pole three-phase asynchronous motors, each designed as a squirrel cage , with 390 kW. The control takes place by specifying the pulling or braking force. A one-sided pawl bearing drive with helical gear with 19: 102 teeth serves as the drive. All locomotives have an electric brake (1200 kW braking power), an automatic compressed air brake and a spring-loaded brake. The 1063.001 to 037 are also capable of two systems and can also be used with alternating current of 25 kV / 50 Hz .
