The ÖBB 1062 was an electric locomotive series of the ÖBB , which was used in the shunting service.
history
As a result of the electrification program of the Austrian Federal Railways after the Second World War , all large Austrian marshalling yards were electrified, which on the one hand made the previously used steam locomotives superfluous and on the other hand required the purchase of new, electric shunting locomotives . The ÖBB decided to develop the existing series 1061 and 1161 . The 1062 series was based on these series. The locomotives had two stems - a short one at the front and a long one at the back and were originally painted pine green. The locomotives were not only used in the shunting service, but also in front of freight trains. After 40 years of service, all remaining locomotives were retired in 1995. Two locomotives have been preserved to this day.
