Christophorus 5 is the name given to the location of an emergency helicopter belonging to the Christophorus Air Rescue Association under the umbrella of the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club . The Eurocopter EC 135 helicopter bears the aircraft registration OE-XEP.

The helicopter base was put into operation in 1987 as Christophorus 1a for emergency medical coverage of the large winter sports areas . After a successful test run, it was initially only used in the winter months under the name Christophorus 5 from the following year . In 1991 the readiness was extended to the summer, since 1993 the Christophorus 5 has been in use all year round. Until 1997 he was stationed on the site of the Pontlatz barracks in Landeck before he was relocated to the newly built heliport in Zams .

There was an accident on August 19, 1992. Christophorus 5 crashed during an operation in the Reutte district , and the emergency doctor lost her life.

The operational readiness begins daily at 7 a.m. and ends at dusk . The alarm is issued around 750 to 850 times a year by the Tyrol control center .
