Christophorus 12 is the call sign of an emergency doctor helicopter of the Christophorus Air Rescue Association stationed at Graz Airport under the umbrella of the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club (ÖAMTC).
history
On July 1, 2001, the ÖAMTC and its Christophorus Air Rescue Association took over the air rescue service in the Graz area, which was set up there in 1986 by the Federal Ministry of the Interior . The existing BMI emergency doctor helicopter of the type AS350 , which was stationed at the Graz flight operations center, was transferred to the Christophorus Air Rescue Association and continued to be used by them. The helicopter, which until then used the callsign Martin 4 , received the callsign Christophorus 12 .
Since January 2009, a newly built heliport with hangar on the grounds of Graz Airport has been used as a base for the emergency doctor's helicopter. The base there is known as Christophorus location 12 . Currently (as of May 2019) the Eurocopter EC 135 with the aircraft registration OE-XVI and the callsign Christophorus 12 is in use.
The helicopter is alerted by the Styrian regional control center and flies around 1200 to 1400 missions a year with an upward trend. Daily operational readiness begins at around 6 a.m. and ends at dusk .
