In 1987 the company acquired its first own Hughes 500D, which was followed by two more by 1988. In 1997, the founder of the company, now known as Knaus Helicopter GmbH , Johann Knaus, died in an aircraft accident. His son Roy Knaus took over the company and became the sole owner. The company has been operating rescue helicopters since 1992 . In 2007, the company filed for bankruptcy , settled and continued under the name Heli Austria GmbH .

In September 2019 the company announced that it would also be involved in various areas in Greece, which does not have an air rescue organization, such as transfer flights between the islands or in the border area with four helicopters.
