Christophorus 8 is the name for the location of an emergency doctor's helicopter of the Vorarlberg mountain rescue and the Christophorus flight rescue association under the umbrella of the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club . The Eurocopter EC 135 helicopter bears the aircraft registration OE-XEN.

On December 15, 1968, a flight operations center of the Federal Ministry of the Interior was set up at the Hohenems-Dornbirn airfield in the Vorarlberg city ​​of Hohenems . From August 2, 1986, the emergency medical helicopter Martin 8 operated by the ministry was stationed there. This was replaced on January 1, 2001 by Christophorus 8. At the end of 2003, the base was relocated to the premises of the Wucher Helicopter company in Ludesch , and in December 2006 the base moved to a newly built heliport in Nenzing . The helicopter has been operated by the Vorarlberg mountain rescue service since 2010.

Daily operational readiness begins at 6 a.m. and ends at dusk . The alert is issued around 700 to 850 times a year, primarily by the rescue and fire brigade control center in Vorarlberg.
