Rudini

Rudini (born December 15, 1929 in Malang , Dutch East Indies , today: Jawa Timur , Indonesia ; † January 21, 2006 in Jakarta ) was an Indonesian general of the Indonesian armed forces and politician who, among other things, was commander of the Strategic Army between 1981 and 1983 -Reservekommandos Kostrad , from 1983 to 1986 Chief of Staff of the Army of the Armed Forces of Indonesia and from 1988 to 1993 Minister of the Interior of Indonesia. In 1999 he became the first chairman of the newly created General Election Commission (Komisi Pemilihan Umum) and held this position until 2001.

Life

After attending high school (Sekolah menengah atas) in Malang, Rudini joined the Indonesian armed forces in 1950 and completed an officer training course at the Koninklijke Militaire Academie in Breda between 1951 and 1955 . After his return he became a lieutenant in 1955 as adjutant to the Chief of the Army General Staff, Abdul Haris Nasution . After a brief assignment as an instructor of the inspection for basic and advanced training, he became a platoon leader of a unit in Brawijaya in 1956 and an instructor at the military academy (Akademi Militer) in Kota Magelang in 1959 . In the following years he completed various basic and advanced courses for paratroopers and airborne troops in 1961, 1964, 1966 and 1967 . Thereupon he became in 1967 as Major Commander of the 400th Infantry Battalion (Batalyon Infanteri 400 / Raider) . In 1970 he graduated from the Army Seskoad School of Staff and Command (Sekolah Staf dan Komando Angkatan Darat) and in 1973 an International Defense Management Course in the USA . As successor to Colonel Zein Toyib, Colonel Rudini became commander of Airborne Brigade 18 (Brigade Infanteri Lintas Udara 18) in 1972 and remained in this position until he was replaced by Colonel Matrodji in 1974.

1975 Rudini took over the post as commander of the airborne command (Komando Tempur Lintas Udara) . After a brief assignment at the National Resilience Institute in Lemhanas (Lembaga Ketahanan Nasional) , he became Chief of Staff of the Strategic Army Reserve Command Kostrad (Komando Cadangan Strategis TNI-Angkatan Darat) in 1977 . On September 16, 1978 he took over from Brigadier General Edy Sugardo the function of commander of the Military District Command XIII Merdeka (Komando Daerah Militer XIII / Merdeka) in Kota Malang and remained in this position until January 28, 1981, after which Brigadier General Susanto Wismoyo became his successor there . He himself was then major general on January 24, 1981 Pangkostrad and thus as the successor to major general Muhammad Ismail commander of the Strategic Army Reserve Command Kostrad. He held this post until his replacement by Major General Soeweno on May 24, 1983. He then became general and took over from General Poniman on March 1, 1983 the post of Chief of Staff of the Army of the Armed Forces of Indonesia KASAD (Kepala Staf TNI Angkatan Darat) . He held this until June 7, 1986, whereupon General Try Sutrisno took his place there.

On March 23, 1988 he became Minister of the Interior (Menteri Dalam Negeri) in the government of President Suharto as successor to Soepardjo Rustam . He held this ministerial office until March 17, 1993 and was then replaced by General Yogie Suardi Memet . In 1999 he became the first chairman of the newly created 52-member General Election Commission (Komisi Pemilihan Umum) and organized the election on June 7, 1999. He held this position until 2001 and was then replaced by Nazaruddin Sjamsuddin .

His marriage to Oddyana had three children. After his death in Pondok Indah Hospital in South Jakarta, he was buried on January 22nd, 2006 in the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta. The funeral was attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Endriartono Sutarto , the Chief of the Army General Staff, General Djoko Santoso , the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin , the Vice-Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly , AM Fatalwa , the Secretary of the Sudi Silalahi Cabinet , the former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia , Try Sutrisno, the former Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, General Wiranto , and the former Chief of the General Staff of the Army, General Wismoyo Arismunandar .
