Raden Haji Mohammad Yogie Suardi Memet (born May 16, 1929 in Cirebon , Dutch East Indies , today: Jawa Barat , Indonesia ; † June 7, 2007 in Bandung , Jawa Barat) was an Indonesian lieutenant general of the armed forces of Indonesia and a politician who, among other things between 1985 and 1993 governor of the Jawa Barat province and then Indonesia's interior minister from 1993 to 1998.

Life

Yogie Suardi Memet, fourth of eleven children of R. Memet Bratasuganda and Ny Alniyah, joined Army Training Battalion 400 in Cirebon at the beginning of the War of Independence in 1945 and took part in the battles against the Darul Islam movement around Abdul Kahar Muzakkar . He later graduated from further training at the Staff College of the Armed Forces (Sekolah Staf dan Komando Tentara Nasional Indonesia) and found in the following period various uses such as commander of the Military District Command (Komando Distrik Militer) Bandung, Chief of Staff of the Airborne Brigade 17. The colonel was he was in command of the 15th Infantry Brigade (Brigade Infanteri 15) that was newly established on December 19, 1962, and then deputy commander of Kopassus.

In May 1975, Brigadier General Yogie Suardi Memet succeeded Brigadier General Witarmin as commander of the General Command of the Special Forces of the Army Kopassus (Komando Pasukan Khusus) and remained in this post until he was replaced by Brigadier General Wismoyo Arismunandar in April 1983 October 1978, as the successor to Major General Himawan Soetanto, also Commander of the Military District Command III Siliwangi (Komando Daerah Militer III / Siliwangi) in Bandung and also held this function until 1983, whereupon Major General Edi Sudrajat took his place. He was then commander of Military Region II (Komando Wilayah Pertahanan II) in Yogyakarta between 1983 and 1985 .

In 1985 Yogie Suardi Memet succeeded former Major General Aang Kunaefi as governor of Jawa Barat Province and remained in this position until he was replaced by former Major General Nana Nuriana in 1993. On March 17, 1993, he succeeded President Suharto in the government of General Rudini Minister of the Interior (Menteri Dalam Negeri) . He held this ministerial office until March 17, 1998 and was then replaced by General R. Hartono . He then became a member of the DPA (Dewan Pertimbangan Agung) Supreme Advisory Board in 1998 , to which he was a member until 2003.

After his death as a result of long-term kidney failure in the Advent Hospital in Bandung, he was buried with military honors on June 8, 2007 in the Cikutra Heroes' Cemetery. From his marriage to Emmy Sariamah, the sons Billy Ibrahim and Danny Iskandar were born.
