Christophorus 9 is the name for the location of an emergency doctor's helicopter belonging to the Viennese professional rescue service and the Christophorus air rescue association under the umbrella of the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club . The operational area of the Eurocopter EC 135 with the aircraft registration OE-XEA extends in addition to Vienna over the Viennese area, the Marchfeld , the Weinviertel and the northern Burgenland .

In 1957, a flight operations center of the Federal Ministry of the Interior was set up in the Viennese district of Meidling . From 1991 the emergency helicopter Martin 3 operated by the ministry was stationed there. This was replaced on April 1, 2001 by the Christophorus 9. From then on, the base was initially in provisional accommodation on the premises of the Opel Vienna company in Aspern , before the construction of a heliport in the direct vicinity was completed in May 2002 . At the beginning of April 2017, the base moved again to the roof of the newly built ÖAMTC mobility center in Baumgasse in Vienna .

The Christophorus 9 is the most heavily frequented emergency helicopter in Austria. A new record was set in 2015: The Christophorus 9 was the first helicopter of the Christophorus Air Rescue Association to be alerted to more than 2000 missions within one year . This alarm is primarily issued by the control centers in Lower Austria and Vienna. The operational readiness lasts daily from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the latest. The operation takes place in cooperation with the Viennese professional rescue.
