from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Werner Vogt (born February 3, 1938 in Zams , Landeck ) is a retired Austrian surgeon , author , social and health reformer .

Life

Vogt, initially a teacher, then studied medicine, and from 1969 to 2000 worked as a trauma surgeon at the Lorenz Böhler trauma hospital in Vienna. He also worked as a doctor in Nicaragua , Temesvár and Kosovo .

His commitment to medicine was evident in the founding of the Critical Medicine Working Group in Vienna and as a co-initiator of the popular initiative for the welfare state of Austria .

Vogt became known throughout Austria through his disputes with Heinrich Gross , which led to legal proceedings. This resulted in the rehabilitation of victims like Friedrich Zawrel , a survivor of Nazi euthanasia and child euthanasia at Am Spiegelgrund in Vienna.

In 2003, Vogt was appointed a nursing ombudsman by city councilor Elisabeth Pittermann . In the course of disputes that the nursing ombudsman should be an expert in nursing science , his function was terminated by City Councilor Renate Brauner in 2006 and the agenda was reduced to the already existing patient advocacy. Vogt continued his commitment as a care ombudsman in the Ministry of Social Affairs for another two years .
