Tschirgant tunnel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tschirgant tunnel is a planned tunnel in Tyrol as part of the connection from the A12 Inntal motorway to the Fernpass route and subsequently to the A7 near Füssen . After completion, the localities of the Mieminger Plateau as well as Tarrenz and Imst should be relieved of long-distance traffic. The motorway feeder should jump off the A12 west of the town of Haiming , then cross the Tschirgant massif in the tunnel and finally join the B179 at Nassereith . The route is to be designed as a single-tube, two-lane tunnel with two-way traffic with an accompanying escape tunnel. The aim of the expansion is, on the one hand, to relieve the neighboring towns from long-distance traffic, and on the other, to gradually improve the connection from Ulm to Italy .

The tunnel was to be 4.3 km long, and costs of 197 million euros were budgeted for construction. There was considerable resistance to the planned Tschirgant tunnel from transit opponents such as the Transitforum Austria Tirol , who feared a further traffic load due to a new transit route (Ulm - Milan).

These plans are not being pursued for the time being due to cost reasons, but were pushed again during the election campaign in Tyrol in 2012.

The Greens will continue to reject the tunnel because it is not in the coalition agreement and would instead like a shift from road to rail.
