The Horlachbach , also called Hairlachbach , is an approximately 18.8 km long, eastern and right tributary of the Ötztaler Ache in the Tyrolean district of Imst .
course
The Horlachbach rises in the Stubai Alps in the municipality of Umhausen from the rest of the Zwieselbachferner , which is located between the Larstigspitze in the west and the Winnebacher Weißkogel and Gleirscher Fernerkogel in the east, and other gullies in the surrounding mountains.
First the Horlachbach flows north-northwest to the Schweinfurter Hütte and then turns west at the Zwieselbacher Grieskogel . At the Horlachalmen there is a water intake that guides water through a tunnel to the Längental reservoir in Kühtai. The water catchment is cleaned of sediment irregularly after heavy rainfall , which can cause the water runoff to surge. The stream continues through the Horlachtal, where it receives several small tributaries from the right and the Grastalbach from the left. As far as Niederthai, it flows through the rather flat high valley with the Kühwald , and then plunges 159 m down on the edge of the Tauferberg as the Stuibenfall .
After the waterfall and a short arc the Horlachbach again turns to the northwest, flows through Umhausen and opens slightly lower traversing the Oetztal road (B186) in the district of Easts in the coming there from South Inn influx Ötztaler Ache .
Catchment area
The catchment area of the Horlachbach is 71.6 km², of which (as of 1988) 2.1 km² (3%) are glaciated. The highest point in the catchment area is the Strahlkogel ( 3288 m above sea level ). The diversion into the Längental reservoir will reduce the effective catchment area by 25.8 km².
The Horlachbach is popular with sport fishermen because of its wealth of brown trout , brook trout and, in the lower course, rainbow trout .
