History and infrastructure

Dr Palfnerkogel is an important copper deposit , and the location was evidently already settled in the younger 2nd millennium BC , in the Bronze Age, as evidenced by dated installation remains in the old man of the Arthur tunnel (3700-3000 years old - Götschenberg and Sinnhubschlössl near Bischofshofen as well Traces of settlement in Mühlbach are even older). This mining was then forgotten.

Names like Burgschwaig ( Schwaige , Almhof) show the resettlement in the High Middle Ages , desert itself is a word for abandoned and resumed settlements.

The copper deposits were found again in the middle of the 19th century when the southern district of the Mitterberg copper mining was started. Three courses were prospected. The Birgstein gang was dismantled from 1855 to 1879 (Joseph-, Walpurgastollen; Bürgstein copper union) . The castle Schwaig gang was in Klara- and Luis tunnels   open-minded. The most important, of Brander transition ( copper mining wastelands of Mitterberger copper  AG), was from the early 20th century in three Höch stollen and the Arthurstollen with the following engineering developed (1907-28, then 1952-58). The latter tunnel was driven over to Mühlbach , and also served as a winter supply tunnel there, and from 1927-88 as a water tunnel for the Arthurwerk below.

The Arthurstollen is an important montane historical monument and has been partially set up as a show mine since 1992/95 (currently not accessible), and the moated castle at the entrance is an exhibition room. It is to become part of the Erz der Alpen Geopark .

The Pongau substation and the small Arthurwerk power station are located south of the village of Einöden . The two 220 kV lines over the Einödenberg are to be replaced by the 380 kV Salzburg line.
