Population development
history
Archaeological sites in several places in the municipality indicate a long history of settlement. During construction work in the Fischhorn district , the remains of a Roman estate from the first century BC were found. On the church hill in St. Georgen a settlement in the old Bronze Age could be proven and also on the Weberpalfen in Gries im Pinzgau finds from Bronze Age copper extraction testify to prehistoric settlement.
The Illyrians and Celts settled in the area of Bruck just like the Romans . Then the Bavarians settled down and mingled with the population.
Prugg im Pinzgrey was first mentioned in 1227.
Since the completion of the Großglockner High Alpine Road in 1935, the place has been called Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße . In 1938 the independent parish of St. Georgen was incorporated.
coat of arms
After the Second World War, efforts to create its own municipal coat of arms were intensified again in Bruck, and a draft was created that was included in the official seal of the municipality. The Ice Madonna intended this unofficial coat of arms as a coat of arms. In view of the fact that several communities in Pinzgau also had the Madonna as a coat of arms, this coat of arms was not recommended. As a result, the place name Bruck in its meaning of a bridge over the river itself offered itself as a motif - together with a bishop's staff, symbolizing the close affiliation with the gentleman at Schloss Fischhorn , the bishop of Chiemsee. However, this type of representation met with little enthusiasm among heraldists .
Ultimately, it was decided to use a speaking coat of arms , designed by Gerd Nowotny and awarded to the municipality by the Salzburg state government on September 17, 1976. In the silver shield it shows a green, three-pointed mountain, in front of it a silver two-bay bridge over a blue river, which makes the reference to the bridge over the Salzach . The connection with St. Georgen is expressed by the symbolized mountain group of the "Three Brothers".
