Sankt Veit im Pongau is a market town with 3846 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Salzburger Land in the district of St. Johann im Pongau in Austria . The place is the first climatic health resort in Salzburg.

geography

The community is located a good 50 kilometers south of Salzburg in the Salzach Pongau in the Salzburger Land on the Salzach . The Salzach flows from west to east as far as St. Veit; then it turns around one knee and flows through the Bischofshofen-St.-Johanner basin exactly from south to north. To the north is the Hochglocker  ( 1590  m above sea level ) of the Dientner Mountains ( Salzburg Slate Alps ), to the south the Höllwand  ( 2287  m above sea level ) of the Ankogel group ( Hohe Tauern ).

The majority of the community lies on a high plateau. Cold north winds are greatly weakened by the elevation of the Hochkönig on the north side; the cold air in winter can flow from the plateau into the Salzach valley. The warm south winds can pull over the Gastein and Grossarlertal valleys - both valleys run from south to north - to St. Veit. Due to its location on a plateau in the Salzach Valley, St. Veit is one of the particularly sunny places (at the winter solstice on December 21, almost seven hours of sunshine in the town center). This is why the area is called the Salzburg Sun Terrace .

Community structure

The municipal area comprises six cadastral communities (area: as of December 31, 2018):

The community is not divided into several localities , the only locality of the same name, Sankt Veit im Pongau, includes the other districts

Counting districts are St. Veit central area for the town and St. Veit area for the rest of the municipality. The community is located in the judicial district of St. Johann im Pongau and belongs to the Salzburg Planning Association Pongau and the Salzburger Sonnenterrasse tourism association .

St. Veit is located a little above the Salzach near Schwarzach. The KG  Schwarzach II comprises parts of Schwarzach im Pongau that remained with Sankt Veit when the municipality was separated in 1906, and form the area around the village. Grafenhof lies east on the river, and Obergrafenhof on the Veitbach . The Wenger Bach in Schwarzach up are Pichl , stone , the Urpaß and frequent feud over Goldegg am Filzkogel . Oberlehen is located on Harbergbach and Putzengraben on the Hochglocker . The other side of the Salzach (the shady side in the south) includes Untersberg ( Nieder - and Oberuntersberg ) on the Heukareck, and the gorge towards the valley on the Gasteiner Ache .
