The Seelackenmuseum is a local museum in the market town of Sankt Veit im Pongau , housed in the so-called Wallnergut . It shows regional handicrafts as well as archaeological and mineral finds and at the same time sees itself as a literary memorial with reference to Thomas Bernhard . The museum is run by the St. Veit im Pongau museum association and is part of the range of exhibits in the Ore of the Alps Geopark .

Wallnergut

The museum is located in the Wallnergut (also Wallner (farmers) house, Wallnerhof ), a typical Pongauer farmhouse from the 18th century. This was originally built in 1738 in Schwarzach , where it stood until 1988. It was then demolished, rebuilt at its current location in 1992 with the original first floor and roof, and opened as a museum in 1994. The large farmhouse parlor with a Holtram ceiling and tiled stove as well as the Rauchkuchl are remarkable . The building is a listed building .

The building ensemble of the museum also includes the Seelackenmühle, a mill powered by an overshot water wheel, which was opened in 1991, as well as a troad box , an oven, a bee showcase and a kitchen garden.

Stock and offer

Exhibits of local folk art and regional handicrafts, archaeological finds (such as a flint knife , a bronze dagger, robe needles, a flat ax , a spearhead, etc.) and mineralogical finds from the Pinzgau and Pongau Grauwackenzone as well as the expired copper mines in the region ( copper pebbles , Pale ore , aragonite , azurite and malachite ).

One focus is the permanent exhibition on Thomas Bernhard with memories of his stay as a patient at the Grafenhof Clinic (1949–1951) as well as the author's subsequent vacation stays in the community. The museum owns most of his literary works and shows various documents about his life. The Thomas Bernhard hiking trail was also laid out in Sankt Veit and Thomas Bernhard days are held annually.

The museum is also dedicated to the Salzburg Protestant expulsion of 1731/32. In addition, the popular offer is deepened in special exhibitions (2016: “35 Years of Thanksgiving in St. Veit”, 2019: “Embroidered Sayings!” From middle-class, farmer and worker households).

There are also three different course programs for school classes as well as the option of individual guided tours.

business

The museum is run by honorary members of the museum association. The funds are provided by the market town, the state of Salzburg and the federal government. In addition, sponsorship comes from the local economy.
