Anta of Paranhos

The little Anta of Paranhos (also called Anta do Carvalhal) is located under a power line near the national road N231 in the hamlet of Carvahal da Loica, in Paranhos in the Guarda district in Portugal . Anta is the Portuguese name for around 5000 megalithic structures or dolmens , which were built during the Neolithic in the west of the Iberian Peninsula by the successors of the cardial or imprint culture .

Like many Portuguese dolmens, it is made up of bearing stones covered with a single capstone. Traces of red ocher and a drawing of an animal became known in 1985. The fragile dolmen was supplemented with concrete parts and stabilized with steel bars.

Nearby is the Orca do Folhadal dolmen.
