Balthasar Linsinger
Balthasar Linsinger (born July 15, 1902 in St. Veit im Pongau , † October 19, 1986 in Tamsweg ) was an Austrian priest .
Linsinger was a pastor in Grossarl and offered the Jewish Bäumer family from the city of Salzburg to come to Grossarl in case of danger. In 1944, when deportation was imminent, the family's three children went into hiding in Grossarl near Linsinger. Linsinger passed them off as the children of a family from Vienna who had lost their apartment due to the bombing war. Since there was no denunciation, the family survived the National Socialist era. For the first time, the story of Balthasar Linsinger and his rescue of the Bäumer family was documented by Helene Maimann in her TV film Die Sterne don't go out .
On April 13, 2011 Linsinger was added to the list of Righteous Among the Nations . The award was made at the instigation of the Vienna-based journalist and curator Angelica Bäumer . She was one of the three children of the painter Eduard Bäumer , whom Linsinger took in at the age of three, nine and twelve at the time in the rectory.
Linsinger was ordained a priest in 1925. Stations in his priestly life as a pastor were Weißbach bei Lofer (1937–1943), Grossarl (1943–1954) and from 1954 until his retirement in St. Michael im Lungau .
