Angelica Bäumer (born January 15, 1932 in Frankfurt am Main ) is an Austrian art critic , exhibition curator and author .

Life

Angelica Bäumer was born in 1932 as the daughter of Eduard Bäumer , a painter who studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt . Mother Valerie, who had also studied art at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, came from a Jewish family of Viennese manufacturers. In 1933 he moved to Salzburg . The family survived the last year of the war as a submarine in Grossarl .

Angelica Bäumer studied music , art history and architecture in Vienna from 1949 to 1953 . From 1971 onwards she worked for radio and television for many years and was responsible for numerous art contributions on Austrian radio . She has made a name for herself as the author of art books, catalog texts and monographs, mostly on Austrian artists, and she organized exhibitions and symposia. She was the commissioner of biennials in Sydney and Puerto Rico and is still a national and international jury member for visual arts. In her position as Minister Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Sport, she was responsible for the press externally and for the cultural section internally. For many years she was president of the friends' association “Künstlerhaus Wien” and “Art Brut Center” Gugging and was a board member of AICA (Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art) , a UNESCO NGO based in Paris. Angelica Bäumer lives in Vienna.
