Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art
The Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art (AICA, International Association of Art Critics ), based in Paris , was founded in 1948/49 and recognized by Unesco as a non-governmental organization in 1951 . It has national sections with more than 4200 members in 64 countries.
The purpose of the association is to promote the influence of art criticism, to protect the professional interests of colleagues and to facilitate and improve information and international exchange in the field of visual arts.
The German section of AICA was founded in 1951. The first president was Franz Roh , who handed over the chairmanship to Will Grohmann in 1958 . Other presidents were Werner Schmalenbach , Karl Ruhrberg , Horst Richter († December 22, 2018), Walter Vitt , Thomas Wulffen , Marie Luise Syring and, for the 2016 to 2019 term of office, Danièle Perrier . About 200 art critics are members of the German section. AICA Germany is based in Cologne. AICA Germany awards the Museum of the Year , Exhibition of the Year and Special Exhibition awards each year . Since 1993 she has published the monographic series of writings on art criticism .
The President and Vice-President of the Switzerland Section are Samuel Herzog and Françoise Ninghetto .
