Françoise Ninghetto (* 1947 , Canton of Valais ) is a Swiss curator and art historian . From 1999 to 2017 she was deputy director of the Musée d'art moderne et contemporain (MAMCO) in Geneva .

Life

Françoise Ninghetto was born in Valais in 1947 and grew up in Geneva . She has an Italian father and a Swiss mother. After studying at the University of Geneva , she worked at the Center d'art Halle Sud from 1984 to 1990 and then as a freelance writer at the Tribune de Genève .

From 1994 Ninghetto built up the Geneva art museum MAMCO as chief curator. In year she became deputy director. She has been a volunteer curator there since 2017.

From 2008 to 2016 Ninghetto was president of the commission that selected the artists for the Istituto Svizzero di Roma .

Ninghetto is vice-president of the Switzerland section of the international art critic association AICA . She works on the editorial staff of the Swiss magazine Kunstbulletin and the associated online platform artlog.net. As a writer, she has written many French editorials for the art bulletin since 2001 . For the Encyclopædia Universalis she wrote the biographies of Fabrice Hybert , Tony Oursler and Pipilotti Rist ; for SIKART, for example, those of the artists Sylvie Fleury , Chérif and Silvie Defraoui .

Françoise Ninghetto is married and has no children.
