Kunstbulletin is a Swiss-based magazine for contemporary art . It portrays artists, reports on current exhibitions, events, publishes art competitions, short notes and a detailed exhibition agenda. At the same time, the art bulletin sells the annual publications of the Federal Office for Culture / BAK , the Swiss Art Awards and the Prix ​​Meret Oppenheim . In addition to the print edition, Kunstbulletin maintains a website with an artist archive, which is linked to the Swiss Institute for Art Research and other international artist databases.

Kunstbulletin appears as a publisher-independent magazine. The contributions are planned and realized in close consultation with a dense network of authors in Switzerland. Kunstbulletin was founded in May 1968 by members of the Swiss Art Association under the direction of criminal law professor Eduard Naegeli (1906–1977) and the then head of the Winterthur printing company, Hans Schneebeli. Since its inception, the art bulletin has been working without subsidies and is financed purely through subscriptions and advertisements. Kunstbulletin has 10,000 subscribers and a print run of 13,500 copies and is read by 30,000 people. This makes the publication the most widely read magazine for contemporary art in Switzerland today. Kunstbulletin is committed to an art discourse that transcends language barriers. Since 1993, the magazine runs an editorial in the French-speaking Switzerland , which contributes a post in French for each issue. In addition, an Italian text on the art scene in Ticino or Italy has appeared in every issue since 2005.

Online archive and app

Kunstbulletin has been running an online archive with an article and exhibition database since 1998. The contributions are based on excerpts from the print edition, which are put online on a monthly basis. Data on over 28,000 artists and over 5,000 institutions are listed and more than 3,800 articles are made accessible. Together with basis wien and the Swiss Institute for Art Research, Kunstbulletin is a partner of european-art.net, a meta search engine for artist data, and has been operating it since 2004. Since 2018, Kunstbulletin has been operating the research portal artlog.net. 2020, Kunstbulletin also launched the navigation app artlist. net with a mobile map and a directory of current art exhibitions and art in public spaces.
