Heiligenkreuz im Lafnitztal ( Hungarian : Rábakeresztúr ) is a market town in the Jennersdorf district in Burgenland in Austria .
geography
The community is located in southern Burgenland in the Lafnitz valley on the border with Hungary. The Heiligenkreuz / Rábafüzes border crossing near Szentgotthárd is also in the local area .
Community structure
The municipality includes the following two localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):
- Heiligenkreuz im Lafnitztal (822) including the Heiligenkreuz mountains, Neuheiligenkreuz and Schmalzgraben
- Poppendorf in Burgenland (412) including the Poppendorfer Mountains
The community consists of the cadastral communities Heiligenkreuz in Lafnitztal and Poppendorf in Burgenland .
history
The place belonged, like the whole of Burgenland, to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Rábakeresztúr be used.
After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).
Heiligenkreuz has been a market town in Lafnitztal since 1971.
coat of arms
The coat of arms was awarded on June 13, 1971. The official blazon reads: ". In the green shield a floating silver cross" The cross stands talking to the place name. The church colors are green and silver. In the public representation (external image of the community) no coat of arms with heraldic shield is used , but a logo or commercial graphics . A description of the commercial graphics could read: "In green a floating silver paw cross ."
