The Pustertaler Staatsstraße , in Italian Strada Statale 49 della Pusteria (SS 49) , is an Italian state road that was established in 1928 between the SS 12 north of Brixen and the Austrian border near Sillian , where it continues as Bundesstraße 100 ( Drautal Straße ) Villach finds.

It goes back to the Strada nazionale 15 established in 1923. Its length is 71 kilometers. Because of its course through the Puster Valley , it received the title della Pusteria . In 1957 she received a side branch SS 49bis. This connects the SS 49 directly to the Brenner motorway . Mühlbach is crossed by a tunnel; the old SS 49 is now Provinzialstraße 182. Vintl is partly bypassed by a more southerly bypass road; the completion is under construction. Another tunnel crosses under the Sonnenburg . Bruneck is circumnavigated to the south, for which a tunnel through the Kühbergl is necessary. Welsberg got a southwest bypass, for which a tunnel was also necessary. The originally straight route at Toblach was changed to a more northerly route because of an airfield.
