Maria Siemionow

Maria Siemionow (born May 3, 1950 ) is a Polish surgeon . She is currently Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and Director of Plastic Surgery Research and Head of Microsurgery Training at Cleveland Clinic. In December 2008, she headed the medical team in a 22-hour operation, the first face transplant in the United States carried out, were transplanted into the 80% of the face. Siemionow graduated from the Medical University of Poznan in Poland in 1974 with a doctorate in microsurgery .

She is an external member of the Polish Academy of Learning (PAU) in Cracow .
