The Ethniki Odos 22 / Εθνική Οδός 22 ( Greek for 'national road 22') is a national road in the Epirus region in northern Greece . It connects the network of Greek national roads with the Albanian border and is the most important border crossing between Albania and Greece . It is also signposted as European route 853 .
course
National Road 22 leaves National Road 20 (EO 20) between Ioannina and Kozani in the village of Kalpaki. It runs from east to west over the mountain ranges of the western Pindos Mountains into the valley of the Drinos River . It passes Lake Tseravina to the north and Akrorachi mountain, flanking the Drinos Valley, to the south. After passing the Greek-Albanian border, it continues as E853 to Saranda , a junction at Jergucat leads north to the city of Gjirokastra .
Coverage with European roads
The entire EO 22 is part of the European route 853 .
Expansion status
The EO 22 was expanded to two lanes with extremely wide lanes on its entire route and is in good condition as far as Kalpaki. In addition to the EO 22, the expansion from Kalpaki will be carried out southwards towards Ioannina. As of February 14, 2006, it is not part of the new Ionia Odos building ( Autobahn 5 (A5) ). In the publication of the official numbering of Greek motorways from January 2008 by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of the Environment, Regional Planning and Public Buildings, the EO 22 is identified as part of the A5 (Ionia Odos).
