Course of the road

The Aftokinitodromos 7 / Αυτοκινητόδρομος 7 ( Greek for 'Autobahn 7'), also called Aftokinetodromos Moreas , is a Greek highway that connects Corinth in the north of the Peloponnese with Kalamata in the south of the Peloponnese. It is part of the Europastraße 65 .
course
The A7 is largely based on the route of the national road 7 (EO 7) , but is not identical to its route (deviation between Tripoli and Corinth).
From Corinth, the A7 leads in a south-south-west direction between the mountains Penteskoufa and Kastro towards Nemea . Nemea is passed in the south, after which it swings to the southwest between the mountains Panagoraki and Mega Vouno. Along the eastern flank of the Mega Vouno and the further south-west of the Melidoni mountain in the valley of the Inachos river , the A7 runs towards the north-south oriented mountain range of the Artemisio, which is crossed under the Artemisio tunnel. After leaving the Artemisio tunnel, it leads past Tripoli in the east and turns to the west-southwest. Assea is passed in the south, and the route of the A7 runs towards the northern foothills of Mount Tsemberou. These foothills are crossed under in the Rapsomatis tunnel. It then turns in a south-south-west direction and leads past Megalopoli to Kalamata in the east , crossing the valley between the mountains Bouzouri (south-east) and Koula (north-west) before reaching the valley floor of Kalamata. Along the Pamisos River , the A7 runs east of Messini and Kalamata Airport to the city of Kalamata.
Construction and expansion
The section from Corinth to Thouria / Messini is built as a motorway with two directional lanes each with two lanes and a hard shoulder. Only between junctions 15 and 16 at Filia is the motorway in the area of a bridge under construction. The last 10 km long section from Thouria to Kalamata is under construction and will be finished in 2016 at the earliest.
Toll
The highway 7 is toll from Corinth to Kalamata. The bypass of the city of Kalamata, which is currently under construction, will not be subject to tolls. In October 2014, the toll for cars from Athens to Messini was around 17 euros. From Corinth to Messini you pass 5 toll booths. The fees there are between 1.20 and 2.80 euros. Cash payment is possible at all toll stations. With the so-called e-passport , it has been possible since 2008 to use lanes that are designed for electronic toll collection, thereby saving time. The e-pass is available at various toll stations. There are more passages available at the toll booths for owners of the e-passport than for those paying in cash.
Networking
Highway 7 connects the airports of Tripoli and Kalamata . From the Messini exit it is approx. 3 km to the airport of Kalamata.
particularities
The Autobahn 7 has five tunnel structures, each with one tunnel tube per lane: Artemisio Tunnel (1.4 km in length), Rapsommati (1.3 km in length), Kalogeriko (750 m in length), Neochori (700 m in length) and Sterna ( 900 m length). Directly after the Artemisio Tunnel in the direction of Kalamata there is a rest stop with a very nice view, but the food on offer is relatively limited.
Attractions
Ancient Corinth, the Corinth Canal (via A8 ), ancient Nemea and the surrounding wine-growing region and the ancient sites of Mycenae , Mantineia , Assea and Megalopoli can be reached from Autobahn 7 .
