The Kalamata International Airport ( Greek Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Καλαμάτας ) ( IATA : KLX , ICAO : LGKL ) is the airport of the Greek city of Kalamata . It is also used as a military airfield for the Greek Air Force .

location

The airport is located between Kalamata and Messene on the Pylos - Kalamata - Sparta road. The runway is around 2.8 kilometers long (north-south orientation).

history

Kalamata Airport is one of 15 international commercial airports in Greece. It was opened as a military airfield in 1959. In 1991 the base was expanded to include a civil airport. A new terminal was opened in 2009. The airport was privatized in 2014.

Airlines and Destinations

Kalamata Airport is mainly used by some airlines during the summer months. All year round there is a scheduled flight connection from Olympic Air to Thessaloniki , Greece's second largest city , several times a week . There are also direct connections from Condor to the German airports in Düsseldorf , Frankfurt , Hamburg and Munich , which will be served from the end of February. The Greek airline Aegean Airlines has a seasonal base at Kalamata Airport. Other airlines that fly to Kalamata are Austrian Airlines , British Airways , Easyjet , Edelweiss Air , Lauda , Ryanair , Swiss , Transavia and TUI Airlines Belgium .
