Location of the airport in Mykonos

The Mykonos Airport ( IATA code : JMK , ICAO code : LGMK , Greek : Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Μυκόνου) is a Greek airport on the island of Mykonos in Greece. It is about four kilometers outside the main town . Flight operations began in June 1971.

Airlines and Destinations

In 2018, connections to the German-speaking airports Berlin-Tegel , Düsseldorf , Frankfurt , Cologne / Bonn , Munich , Vienna and Zurich were offered.

Start-and runway

Due to the many hills that are in Mykonos , landings are more difficult than at many other airports . In addition, the runway on Mykonos is quite short compared to other commercial airports such as Cologne / Bonn or Dresden .

Location and connection

The airport is located in the heart of the island of Mykonos, about 4 km from the main town. The city can also be reached by city bus service . You can also take the city bus to “Paradise Beach” and the new port. There is a car rental in the immediate vicinity of the airport .

history

The airport has limited flight connections and operating hours during the low season . In midsummer , on the other hand, it is found necessary to greatly increase general aviation and only allow flight operations to be stopped for 2 hours.

In December 2015, the privatization of Mykonos international airport and 13 other regional airports in Greece was completed with the signing of the contract between the joint venture Fraport AG / Copelouzos Group and the state privatization fund. Under the agreement, the joint venture will operate the 14 airports (including Mykonos International Airport) for 40 years.

Fraport started managing the airport on April 11, 2017. On March 22, 2017, Fraport Greece presented its master plan for the 14 regional airports including Mykonos Airport. Immediate measures that will be carried out at the airports as soon as Fraport Greece starts operations before the start of the 2017 summer season include general clean-up work, shorter waiting times at check-in and fewer flight delays, as well as the modernization of sanitary facilities to improve services and offer new free internet connections (WiFi ).
