The Aktio airport ( Greek Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Ακτίου ; IATA code : PVK , ICAO code : LGPZ ) is the airport of the Greek city of Preveza in Epirus and is located on the peninsula of Actium . It also serves the nearby island of Lefkada . Domestic flights are handled in scheduled services all year round, and numerous charter flights are added in summer, mostly from other European countries. It is also used as the military airfield of the Greek Air Force , the base is at the southeast end of the runway .

The Preveza-Aktio-Tunnel connects the airport with Preveza and the regions north of the Ambracian Gulf .

history

In place of a military airfield of the Greek Air Force, the airport was opened in 1968 and since then has been served by Olympic Airlines and now Olympic Air in regular service. In 1988 the runway was extended and a new main building opened. In terms of passenger numbers - 569,082 in 2017 - this is the largest in Epirus, ahead of Ioannina Airport .
