The airport Rhodes “Diagoras” ( IATA : RHO , ICAO : LGRP , officially Rhodes International Airport , Greek : Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Ρόδου “Διαγόρας” or often also Rhodos-Paradisi ) is the international airport of the Greek island of Rhodes .
Location and transport links
Rhodes Airport is located 13 kilometers southwest of the city of Rhodes , on the west coast of the island.
It can be reached by car, taxi and bus (to Rhodes city). The bus line from Rhodes City to the airport runs from 6:00 am every 1½ hour until 10:30 pm.
history
Today's Rhodes Diagoras Airport replaced the Rhodos-Maritsa Airport in 1977, which was reaching its capacity limits. Events are taking place at the old airport today.
Rhodes Airport has a single runway, whereby the airport can be approached with an instrument landing system from the east (course 248) . The runway has a length of 3260 m and thus also offers larger machines the opportunity to land.
There are a few small duty-free shops as well as bars and bistros for passengers. All major European car rental companies are represented at the airport.
An estimated two million passengers were handled in 2005, which means that the current terminal is reaching its limits. The new terminal, which is supposed to relieve the old terminal, has also been in operation since May 2007. At the moment, however, only air passengers traveling to countries outside the Schengen Agreement are processed there. Fraport has been operating Rhodes Airport since 2017 .
Airlines and Destinations
The airport is served year-round by scheduled flights operated by Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines from Athens , Thessaloniki , Karpathos , Leros and Kassos . Between April and October, mainly charter and low-cost airlines land with holidaymakers from many countries in Europe and the Middle East ( Israel , Jordan , Lebanon , Egypt ).
