The Araxos Airport (officially Greek Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Αράξου Kratikos Aerolimenas Araxou , brand image as Agamemnon Airport ) is a Greek airport in the northwest of the peninsula Peloponnese at Patras near the Cape Araxos . It is also an important military airfield for the Greek Air Force .
Directions
The airport is 45 km west of Patras near the national road 9 ( E 55 ). The airport is hardly connected to the public transport network. The arrival and departure is essentially only possible by taxi, rental car or private vehicle, and in some cases also by public KTEL buses to Patras and Araxos. Package holidaymakers are picked up at the airport by buses.
Flight connections
The airport is seasonally served by several airlines from Estonia, France, Poland, Russia and Belarus.
The following seasonal direct flights are available from German-speaking countries: TUIfly serves Araxos from Düsseldorf , Frankfurt , Hanover , Munich and Stuttgart . Austrian Airlines flies from Vienna . Edelweiss Air serves Araxos from Zurich in July and August .
history
During the Second World War , the airfield was used by the German Air Force . In September 1943, the I. Group of Stukageschwader 3 moved from Megara to Araxos and flew from there against Italian troops on Kefalonia and Corfu.
