The Mytilene International Airport (alternatively Lesvos Airport , Greek Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Μυτιλήνης ; IATA code : MJT , ICAO code : LGMT ) is an international airport on the island of Lesbos in the eastern part of Greece near the Turkish mainland. It is located 1 km south of Neapoli and 8 km southeast of the eponymous city of Mytilene . The airport is operated by Fraport Greece . The airport has a runway that is around 2,400 m long and is oriented 14/32. In 2019, 496,577 passengers used the airport.
history
The airport was completed in 1932, but operations only began 38 years after it opened.
In December 2015, Fraport AG and Copelouzos signed a privatization contract for a total of 14 Greek airports, including the airport in Mytilini. This includes the operational continuation of the airports by the joint company Fraport Greece and is valid for 40 years.
