The Aftokinitodromos 23 ( Greek Αυτοκινητόδρομος 23 for 'Highway 23') is a Greek highway that connects Highway 2 ( Egnatia Odos Highway) near Komotini with the Bulgarian border (Makaza-Nimfea Pass). It leads from the Bulgarian border pass Makaza (Greek Μακάζα) or the Greek border village Nimfea (Greek Νυμφαία) to Komotini, where it joins the Autobahn 2 via the AK Komotini Ost.

The A23 has a total length of 23 km, 19 km of it as a new construction and 4 km through the renovation of existing infrastructure.
The road is planned as a motorway, initially largely designed as an 'intersection-free motor road', two lanes (3.50 m per lane plus 2 m hard shoulder) or three lanes in the upper course (2 lanes for the uphill direction). The good state of development and the 5 tunnels, each approx. 400 m long before reaching the ridge (Tichero, Katerina, Nimfea, Solomontas, Frurio) shorten the mountain route from the Greek Aegean, e.g. B. the tourist places Kavala, Keramoti and island Thassos to Plovdiv or northern Bulgaria (Kazanlak, Gabrovo) direction Danube and Bucharest around 2 hours drive.
In 2013 the border crossing (BG) Makaza-Nimfea (GR) was inaugurated. This now connects the Bulgarian national road 5 in the further course via the national road A23 -sog. "vertical axis of the Rhodope Mountains" ( κάθετος άξονας Ροδόπης ) - the Bulgarian city of Kardzhali and the Bulgarian Maritza (A4) and Trakia motorway (A1) with Komotini (capital of the Greek administrative region of East Macedonia and Thrace ) and the Egnatia Odos motorway (A2 / E90) .
The A23 motorway, which has been under construction since 2007, was opened to traffic in spring 2017 from km 0 (junction at Komotini East) up to km 23 (Makaza border crossing). The construction costs amounted to approx. € 90 million.
The A23 motorway is one of the southernmost stretches of the Pan-European Transport Corridor IX , which connects Helsinki with Alexandroupoli .
