The Periferiaki Odos Thessalonikis (also: Avtokinitodromos 16 , Greek Περιφερειακή Οδός Θεσσαλονίκης; Αυτοκινητόδρομος 16 , f. Sg., German ring road of Thessaloniki; highway 16) is a main road from Thessaloniki. It directs long-distance traffic and much of the urban traffic around Thessaloniki. The western end is at the intersection of the A 1 and the A 2 at Lachanagora (Λαχαναγορά) and forms a north-east oriented circular path around the city. It leads through the northwestern suburbs, the forest area Kedrinos Lofos (Κέδρινος λόφος, Σέιχ Σου) and through the southeastern suburbs to Kalamaria . It ends at a large intersection with Aftokinitodromos 25 , which is to continue to Halkidiki in the future.
The maximum speed is 90 km / h, the road currently has three lanes and is an important artery. The original use of 30,000 vehicles per day, which was planned in 1975, is now far exceeded with over 120,000 vehicles per day.
history
Planning for the city bypass began as early as 1975, but completion took until the 1990s. Originally a ring road with traffic lights was planned, but after an expansion in 2005, most of the route was converted into a closed motorway. The section that leads from Lachanagora (Λαχαναγορά) to Efkarpia (Ευκαρπία Θεσσαλονίκης) should be completed sometime.
Outer motorway ring (Εξωτερική Περιφερειακή Οδός)
An additional outer motorway ring was also planned to replace the existing road. This motorway ring should lead from the Kombo tou TITAN (κόμβο του ΤΙΤΑΝ) junction to S'cholari (Σχολάρι) on the Thessaloniki-Nea Moudania national road . The planning provided for a three-lane highway with hard shoulder and a length of 34.5 km. The road was to be led through a tunnel over a length of 18 km. The project was canceled, however, as the total costs would have exploded and it was not foreseeable how the route could be represented in terms of environmental protection and monument protection.
West bypass (Δυτική Περιφερειακή)
In 2013, expansion work was decided and awarded, which should be completed by 2017. The work related to three sections:
Connection K16 (Ανισόπεδος κόμβος Κ16)
In 2011 the company J&P ΑΒΑΞ (J&P Avax) was commissioned to build 9 bridges within 62 months with an original budget of 89.5 million euros (after the negotiation 52.6 million euros), as well as to build sewage and sewage treatment plants.
Section 16 - Evosmos
The section from connection Κ16 to Evosmos was awarded to ΔΟΜΟΤΕΧΝΙΚΗ ΑΕ (Domotechniki AE). The budget provided for 40.467 million euros and should be completed by 2016. The work included connecting roads ( Maiandrou - Α / Κ Μαιάνδρου, with the DESPER viaduct - ΔΕΣΠΕΡ; Tritis Septembriou - Α / Κ 3ης Σεπτεμβρίου, Odos Vempo - οδός Βέμπο), as well as the construction of new entrances and exits to existing ones the route to Odos Monastiriou (οδός Μοναστηρίου), a road overpass over the Odos Tritis Septembriou (οδός 3ης Σεπτεμβρίου), repair work on the entire route.
This section is funded by the "Makedonia - Thraki 2007-20013" program.
Section Evosmos - Efkarpia
This section of the route was awarded to INTRAKAT and given a budget of EUR 41.43 million. The work includes two new connecting roads ( K14 Ikosipentis Martiou - Κ14 25ης Μαρτίου; A / K Makrygianni Α / Κ Μακρυγιάννη), expansion of the A / K Langkada (Α / Κ Λαγκαδά, replacement of the guardrails and renewal of asphalt signs Traffic islands and green spaces on the entire section.
Further planning
In order to further relieve the city of traffic, various visions of a southern bypass are being discussed:
- Viaduct with a view of the Thermaic Gulf (Υπερυψωμένος Αυτοκινητόδρομος με θέα τον Θερμαϊκό)
- Tunnel and bridge over the Thermaic Gulf (Ζεύξη Θερμαϊκού)
