Schabak models
Schabak Modelle was a toy manufacturer based in Nuremberg . The company is known for its range of German model cars and models of commercial aircraft.
history
The company was founded in 1966 by Max Haselmann, Gerhard Hertlein, Horst Widmann and Wolfgang Stolpe. However, the company did not start out as a manufacturer, but as a distributor, mainly for Schuco model toys. Schabak's first own model car was a replica of the VW Jetta I in 1:43 scale. Later on, model cars in 1:24 scale also expanded the range.
The commercial aircraft models, mainly on a scale of 1: 600, were sold through airlines, airport souvenir shops and toy stores, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. With the emerging offer from Herpa , the toy trade gradually withdrew from sales over the years.
In addition to the core range in the 1: 600 scale, commercial aircraft in 1: 250 and 1: 500 were also manufactured. Only the early models of the Boeing 747 on a scale of 1: 250 were made from printed sheet metal. The injection-molded models of the other scales were pasted with water slide pictures (1: 600) or foils (1: 500, later also 1: 250) until 2004.
The range of supplementary items was limited to a printed airport surface made of PVC film, a terminal building using the thermoforming process, the Lufthansa Airport Express series 403 on a scale of 1: 360, and metal stands for the aircraft models. Since the beginning of the 1980s, Schabak has continuously expanded its range of commercial aircraft types on a scale of 1: 600:
