The location of Collazzone in the province of Perugia

The place belongs to the province of Perugia and the area of ​​the central Tiber valley. The municipality is located about 25 km south of the provincial and regional capital Perugia and about 15 km north of Todi .

The Tiber and the Torrente Puglia flow through the municipality, with the Puglia flowing into the Tiber from the east in the western municipality. The municipality is part of the Comunità montana Trasimeno Medio Tevere and is in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in Zone E, 2 266 GR / G.

The districts (frazioni) include Acquasanta (166 m, approx. 70 inhabitants), Assignano (297 m, approx. 20 inhabitants), Canalicchio (420 m, approx. 10 inhabitants), Carceri (175 m, approx. 90 inhabitants) , Casalalta (325 m, approx. 60 inhabitants), Collepepe (251 m, approx. 900 inhabitants), Gaglietole (326 m, approx. 80 inhabitants) and Piedicolle (324 m, approx. 120 inhabitants).

Neighboring communities include Bettona , Deruta , Fratta Todina , Gualdo Cattaneo , Marsciano and Todi .

history

The first settlements in the municipality date from the time of the Romans, when they built near Carceri and Collepepe at the mouth of the Paglia in the Tiber. Later the place belonged to the part of the county of Perugia, which was ruled by Todi. The place itself was probably created between the 8th and 9th centuries by an Attone (Azzone) from the Atti family, who was under the rule of Spoleto . The place name is derived from Colle di Attone (Hill of Attone), the name transformed over time to Collazzone. From 1332 to 1647 ruled Baglioni from Perugia the place then took over the Papal States rule over Collazzone. After the occupation of Italy by Napoleon (1805-1814), the place became part of the Kingdom of Italy and later part of the Italian Republic.

  • Chiesa di San Lorenzo , church in the town center. It was built in its current form in 1902 over an older structure from 1671. The campanile was built in the 18th century. Contains the work Madonna col Bambino (wooden statue from the 13th century, crypt), San Carlo Borromeo (canvas painting from 1615 by Pietro Paolo Sensini, from the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and located in the Sala Parrocchiale), Adorazione dei pastori (Canvas painting by Pietro Paolo Sensini from 1628, Sala Parrocchiale) and Crocefisso (fra i santi Michele Arcangelo e Carlo Borromeo) (painting, Sala Parrocchiale).

  • Piedicolle , medieval Borgo , was destroyed in 1437 by Francesco Piccinino (adoptive son of Niccolò Piccinino ) and only rebuilt in 1544 by Mariotto da Marsciano from Marsciano.
  • Chiesa di San Giacomo Maggiore , church that was built in the Piedicolle district at the end of the 16th century. The baptismal font dates from 1632.
