Fossato di Vico is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2738 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Perugia in Umbria .

geography

The municipality is located about 30 kilometers northeast of the provincial and regional capital Perugia and borders directly on the province of Ancona in the Marche region . It lies in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in Zone E, 2,382 GR / G

The districts include Borgo di Fossato , Colbassano ( 446  m slm ), Osteria del Gatto ( 423  m slm ), Palazzolo and Purello .

The neighboring municipalities are Fabriano ( AN ), Gualdo Tadino , Gubbio and Sigillo .

history

As a fossaton , "fortification", emerged soon after the Battle of Busta Gallorum . The municipality of Fossato has existed since 1386. From 1540 until the Risorgimento Fossato belonged to the Papal States . It received the addition di Vico in 1862.

  • San Cristoforo , former church in the center from the 13th century. Was mentioned in writing by Petrus Venturelle in 1304 in a parchment .
  • Santa Maria della Piaggiola , former church in the center from the 13th century. The cycle of frescoes in the interior (around 1405) is attributed to Ottaviano Nelli .

The station

Strada Statale 76 della Val d'Esino lead through the municipality from here to Falconara Alta on the Adriatic coast, Strada Statale 318 di Valfabbrica coming from Perugia-Lidarno , Strada Statale 219 di Gubbio e Pian d'Assino coming from Umbertide and the Strada Statale 3 Coming from Terni via Flaminia .

The former Ferrovia Appennino Centrale connected Arezzo with Fossato as a terminus until the line was closed in 1945. Today the station is served by trains on the route from Rome to Ancona .

Community partnerships

Fossato di Vico has a partnership with the French commune of Saint-Ambroix in the Gard department . A partnership with the Hessian city of Asslar is planned for the future.
