La Gorgue (Dutch: "De Gorge") is a French commune .
geography
It is located in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dunkerque and the Canton of Hazebrouck (until 2015 Canton of Merville ).
The municipality is located 34 kilometers from Lille , 15 kilometers from Armentières , 56 kilometers from Dunkirk , 18 kilometers from Hazebrouck and 14 kilometers from Béthune . It lies on the Leie , into which the river Lawe flows.
Neighboring municipalities are: Estaires , Sailly-sur-la-Lys , Laventie , Richebourg , Lestrem and Merville .

history
On December 28, 1941, a serious railway accident occurred between La Gorgue and Laventie when two trains collided here on the Nantes – La Roche-sur-Yon railway . 56 people died and 40 were also injured.
