Hazebrouck ( Flemish Hazebroek ) is a French town in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France in the historic West Flemish -speaking region French Flanders . Hazebrouck has 21,441 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and is the capital of the canton Hazebrouck , formerly cantons Hazebrouck-Nord and Hazebrouck-Sud .

Hazebrouck is 40 km from Dunkirk , 43 km from Lille , 56 km from Arras , 62 km from Calais and 16 km from the Belgian border . It's a quiet city, mostly with residential areas.
history
Hazebrouck was an important supply post in World War I for the Allies. The German spring offensive of 1918 was also directed against this city . The Germans failed to take Hazebrouck, which meant that the offensive plan could not be fulfilled.
On December 30, 1941, a serious railway accident occurred near Hazebrouck , in which 50 people died.
