Nieppe ( Dutch Niepkerke ) is a commune with 7476 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dunkerque and the Canton of Bailleul .
location
Nieppe is located about 42 km southeast of the city of Dunkerque , directly on the border with Belgium - the northern municipal border is also the national border. The neighboring Belgian municipality is Heuvelland . The city of Lille is about 15 km to the southeast. At the eastern boundary of the municipality, the Leie ( French Lys ) flows and separates the place from the municipality of Armentières .
history
Nieppe is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1042. The first bridge over the Leie was built between 1759 and 1765.

Attractions
- Nieppe Castle originally dates from the early 17th century. After it fell into disrepair during the French Revolution , it was rebuilt in 1802, badly damaged during the First World War in 1917 and rebuilt in 1925.
