The small town of Steenvoorde is located in French Flanders in the far north of France, about 30 kilometers southeast of Dunkerque and 35 kilometers northwest of Lille . In the northeast, the municipality borders on Belgium (Poperinge municipality). The predominantly flat area of ​​the municipality is traversed by a few streams that drain via the Ey Becque towards the north to the Yser .

The giants can be seen at Carnival time, on the last weekend in April and at many other regional festivals. In 2006 the European Festival of Giants took place in Steenvoorde.
