Michel Spanneut (born November 6, 1919 in Steenvoorde , Nord Département , France , † April 28, 2014 in Lomme ) was a French historian of ancient churches .

Spanneut studied Catholic theology in Lille and was ordained a priest in 1944 . In 1946 he received his doctorate in theology. With the work Le stoïcisme des pères de l'Église de Clément de Rome à Clément d'Alexandrie , he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1956 under Henri-Irénée Marrou at the Sorbonne . The study appeared as the first volume in the series Patristica Sorbonensia edited by Henri Irénée Marrou . From 1955 to 1989 Spanneut was a professor in Lille. His research focus was the reception of stoicism . He wrote the article Epictetus for the Reallexikon für Antike und Christianentum (RAC) . His book Permanence du stoïcisme de Zénon à Malraux offers "a valuable collection of material on the continuity of stoic ideas up to the modern age", judges Jochen Schmidt .
