Barbara Neymeyr (* 1961 in Hanover ) is a German literary scholar and philosopher . She teaches as a professor for modern German literature at the University of Klagenfurt .

Life

Barbara Neymeyr studied philosophy, German, Latin and pedagogy at the University of Münster from 1980 to 1986 . After passing the state examination, she moved to the University of Freiburg and did her doctorate in 1993 with a philosophical dissertation on the aesthetics of Arthur Schopenhauer . In 2000 she completed her habilitation with a treatise on Robert Musil for the subject of modern German literature. Several scholarship providers sponsored her work, in particular the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and the Dr. Meyer Struckmann Foundation .

After six years as a senior assistant and university lecturer at the German Department of the University of Freiburg, she worked from 2008 to 2013 as a scientific commentator in the research project Nietzsche Commentary at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences . There she wrote the commentary on Friedrich Nietzsche's Untimely Considerations until she was appointed to the Chair of Modern German Literature at the Institute for German Studies at the University of Klagenfurt in April 2013.

Barbara Neymeyr's research focuses on German-language literature from the 18th to the 20th century and on the philosophy of the 19th century . Some of her publications are interdisciplinary and incorporate cultural-historical horizons from antiquity to modern times . Together with colleagues from Freiburg, Jochen Schmidt and Bernhard Zimmermann , she published two books on stoicism reception in 2008 (with six of her own contributions). In March 2009, this work was selected on the “Non-Fiction Books” list of the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Norddeutscher Rundfunk .
