Nietzsche commentary

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nietzsche Commentary is the short name for the historical and critical commentary on Friedrich Nietzsche's works (Sigle: NK). It is a long-term project started in 2008 (duration: initially 15 years until the end of 2022) as part of the federal and state academy program ; it is located at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences . The office is at the German Seminar of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

Goal setting

The aim of the Nietzsche Commentary is, for the first time, to provide comprehensive comments on all works published by Nietzsche or prepared for publication. Despite the enormous and worldwide influence of Nietzsche's thinking, there has been no comprehensive commentary on Nietzsche's works so far, only studies on individual of his publications. The Nietzsche Commentary seeks to remedy this desideratum by opening up Nietzsche's works in their historical context in a philosophical and intellectual history.

Structure, structure and organization

“The comment is intended to bring together, systematize and expand the existing research results. The explanations relating to individual parts of the text are put into a conceptual, structural, and historical context through introductory overview comments. Intensive context and source research is essential for this. "

The commentary volumes are arranged chronologically according to work complexes and are published by Verlag Walter de Gruyter (Berlin / Boston):

reception

The previously published volumes of the Nietzsche Commentary have been received favorably in the press and in the professional world: “Three volumes open a new commentary on Friedrich Nietzsche's works and thus set standards. [...] Thus, the commentary is an indispensable instrument not only for the European history of religion, for the history of science, but for religious studies as a whole. "" For the first time there is a scientifically high-ranking, precisely descriptive, seriously informative and highly informative Nietzsche commentary from a consistently humanistic, Enlightenment and democracy-affirming perspective. ”“ The enormous scientific achievement of the commentary can be seen exemplarily in the development of the “Birth of Tragedy”, Nietzsche's powerful, but also highly confusing, early work that requires a great deal of explanation. The commentary here reveals precisely and sharply defined the connections that otherwise tend to blur in Nietzsche's Dionysian intoxication. ”“ If the previous level can be maintained, a thorough reading of one of these probably 12 volumes would benefit almost every interpreter, let alone 'normal' reader , in the information, reflection and criticism level significantly: Nietzsche would be read differently and by far more astute. Thus the volumes of this commentary could also serve as stimulants for more careful and less naive, affirmative reading; Incidentally, not only with a view to Nietzsche's texts. ”“ Like the comment of Morgenröthe [...], the Idyllen commentary convinces with differentiated, historically far-reaching arguments and the [...] ability to sensitively trace conceptual connections and not oneself to lure Nietzsche on the wrong track through tricks and diversionary maneuvers. "" The commentary [...] has become an indispensable research tool for those who deal strictly scientifically with Nietzsche's philosophy. "
