Broxeele ( Dutch Broksele ) is a French municipality with 403 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France .
history
The municipality belongs to French Flanders , a part of the Netherlands that came to France in the late 17th century (finally in the Peace of Utrecht in 1713), where the population speaks Dutch, which explains the origin of the place name.
The name of the place was first mentioned in 1072 as Brocsela . It is derived from the Old High German bruho , bruoc "Bruch", "Sumpf" and seli " Wohnsitz " , Halle ", from which the Old Dutch Broek became sele , and means" house in the marsh "or" house in the swamp " The etymological meaning corresponds to the origin of the names of Bruchsal and Brussels, and there is a partnership with the Belgian capital .
