Socx ( Dutch : Soks) is a French municipality with 938 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Dunkerque , the canton of Wormhout (until 2015 canton Bergues ) and the Communauté de communes des Hauts de Flandre .
history
Socx was first in 1067 as Chocas in a charter of the Flemish Count Baldwin V mentioned. This name was changed to Chox in 1225 and Sox in 1528 before adopting its current spelling. For centuries, Socx belonged to the domain of the Châtellenie Bergues and the diocese of Ypres .
During the First World War , the headquarters of the French Marshal Foch was in Socx from 1914 to 1918 . During the Second World War , the hospital of Dunkerque , which was captured by German troops, was relocated to Socx.
