Merris is a municipality with 1,018 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in French Flanders in France . It belongs to the Hauts-de-France region , the Nord department , the Dunkerque arrondissement and the Bailleul canton (until 2015: Bailleul-Sud-Ouest canton ). It borders on Méteren to the north and north- east, Bailleul to the east, Vieux-Berquin to the south and Strazeele to the west . The inhabitants call themselves Merrisiens or Merrisiennes . The nearest train station is in Strazeele.
