Quaëdypre ( Dutch : Kwaadieper ) is a French commune near Dunkirk with 1095 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Wormhout (until 2015: Bergues ).

geography

Quaëdypre is about 14 kilometers south of Dunkirk . Lille is about 65 km away. The place is two kilometers south-southeast of Bergues .

history

Mentioned for the first time in 1067, the place was called Quatipra from 1220 and received its current name in 1393. The origin of the name is probably composed of kwaad (“bad” or “small”) and Ieper or Ypres ( elm ).
